Havana, April 16 (RHC) -. On this April 16 the Cuban people are commemorating the proclamation of the socialist character of the Revolution in 1961, on the eve of the mercenary invasion of Playa Girón, in Bay of Pigs.

On that day, when delivering a speech before a crowd in Havana, remembering the victims of the bombings of three Cuban airports the day before, the leader Fidel Castro proclaimed the Cuban revolution's socialist path and accused the United States of trying to destroy the revolutionary process through armed aggression and economic sabotage, ensuring that the Cuban people was determined to defend its conquests.
