The Temporary Working Group in charge of the National Program for the Advancement of Women meets every month to follow up on the implementation of this plan, which summarizes the Cuban government's will to continue advancing in the empowerment of women.

At the January meeting, two new projects were presented, in addition to those already launched since the approval of this program by presidential decree in 2021.

"Support for the National Response to Gender Violence" was one of the initiatives presented by the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), which for more than six decades has played an essential role in defending the rights of this sector of the population and promoting their full integration into society.

This project, supported by the Office of the United Nations Population Fund and the Canadian Embassy in Havana, will reach 40 municipalities in the country.

Its objectives include the creation or strengthening of national and territorial services for women victims of gender-based violence, as well as the elimination of stereotypes and discriminatory practices that perpetuate this problem.

And on the path of cultural change, which still faces rejection in rural areas, "No more" was also presented, led by the FMC and its Editorial de la Mujer, with the support of the International Cooperation Association and the Martin Luther King Center.

This initiative will cover the Havana municipalities of Plaza de la Revolución and Mariano, as well as Bayamo, Las Tunas, El Salvador and Guantánamo, in the eastern region.

In addition, the National Center for Sexual Education will lead the communication campaign "Looking the other way is also violence".

Throughout these months, several actions have been implemented in favor of women and gender equality.

And although there are still many challenges, the authorities are willing to continue advancing in the empowerment of women, a path laid out by the historic leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro, who said: "It is not only fair that women have the opportunity to develop their capacity for the benefit of society, but it is also necessary for society that women find all the possibilities to fully develop their capabilities".
