Latin American New Film Festival Winds up with Coral Awards Ceremony

The movie Alanis by Argentinean filmmaker, Anahi Berneri, received the best fiction film award at the 39th Latin American Film Festival that wound up in Havana Saturday.

At a ceremony held at the Charles Chaplin Movies Theater Saturday evening, the best actor’s award went to Jean Jean from the Dominican Republic for Capinteros (Carpenters), while Daniela Vega for Carpenters and Sofía Gala for Alanis received the prize as best actresses. Lucrecia Marteol was awarded the coveted Coral as best director for Zama, while Renata Pinheiro was the best artistic director for the same film. The best unpublished screenplay award went to La Pecera (The Fish Bowl) by Glorimar Marrero.

In the category of short documentary the prize went to La casa de los Lúpulos (the House of Hops) by Paula Hopf from Mexico. In long documentary el Pacto de Adriana (Adriana’s Pact) by Lissette Orozco from Chile received the jury’s special prize, while the Coral went to Baronesa by Juliana Antunes from Brazil. Competing in the category of full-length fiction film for Cuba was Sergio & Serguei by director Ernesto Daranas who was presented with the audience’s award.
