A special edition online of the Varadero Josone Festival of Rumba, Jazz & Son began Wednesday, August 19th, from Cuba’s world-famous Varadero beach resort in times of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Running through the 22nd, the festival brings highlights of the two previous editions.
A review of the 2nd edition held in 2019, published in the prestigious Magazine AM:PM stated that: ‘At Josone 2019, danceable music featured prominently and people danced to the music of top class Cuban and foreign Rumba, Salsa, Son, Urban Music and jazz orchestras and ensembles like Los Van Van, Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco, Haila María Mompié, Buena Fe, Alexander Abreu y Havana D’ Primera, Pancho Céspedes, Alain Pérez, Pupy y los que Son Son, Paulo FG, Adalberto Álvarez y su Son, Issac Delgado, jazz musicians Alejandro Falcón, Cucurucho Valdés and Ernan Lopez Nussa and Horacio “El Negro” Hernández, as well as Puerto Rican Gilberto Santa Rosa and Salvadorian Álvaro Torres.’
First held in 2018, Josone Festival is sponsored by the Record and Musical Editions Company EGREM, the Cuban Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism, the Cuban Music Institute and the Extra-Hotel Company Palmares.
The president of the organizing committee, Cuban singer, composer and band leader Isaac Delgado, disclosed that the 3rd edition of the festival has been postponed for August 19th through the 22nd.
