Album dedicated to Miguel Matamoros nominated to 2021 Cubadisco Awards
Santiago de Cuba, April 28 (RHC) -- Cuba’s traditional music septet Ecos del Tivoli is among nominees to the 2021 Cubadisco Awards for their latest album 'Juramento, Antologia Matamorina'. The album pays tribute to Cuban son musician Miguel Matamoros.
The album includes collaborations by several Cuban and Puerto Rican artists, including singer Gilberto Santa Rosa, who sings a new version of Matamoros’ iconic tune ‘El que siembra su maiz’. Other Puerto Rican artists featured in 'Juramento, Antologia Matamorina' include Choco Orta, Andy Montañes, Danny Rivera, cuatro player Edwin Colon and bassist Eddy Rivera from Gran Combo orchestra.
Cuban artists who collaborate in this the seventh album of Ecos de Tivoli include Maria Victoria Rodriguez, Haydee Milanes, Mayito Rivera, Zulema Iglesias, Sixto Llorente, Ruben Leliebre, Lazaro Bandera and Joaquin Solorzano.
Released under Bis Music label, the album includes 30 tracks –all of them tunes composed by Miguel Matamoros in whose honor Cuban Son Day will be celebrated for the first time this year on May 8th –his birthday in 1894.
