No artistic expression or form will be left out during the first edition of the festival Habanarte (Havana Art), scheduled for the Cuban capital from September 11 through 21.
The Infanta and Charles Chaplin Movie Theaters are set to screen four important retrospectives with a look at the island’s film production: Tomás Gutiérrez Alea… hasta cierto punto (Tomás Gutiérrez Alea … Up to a Certain Extent); 55 años de un sueño compartido: Nuevo cine cubano (55 years of a shared dream: New Cuban Film); and Nosotros, la música y el cine cubano (Music, Cuban Cinema and Us). Films by Tomas Gutiérrez Alea, Octavio Cortázar, Pastor Vega, Juan Padrón, Orlando Rojas, Gerardo Chijona, Arturo Soto, Juan Carlos Cremata, Pavel Giroud, Lester Hamlet, Esteban Insausti, and Daniel Díaz Torres will be part of the restrospectives.
Theaters, galleries, plazas, cultural centers, art schools and museums, such as the Fine Arts Museum, the Decorative Art, the Dance and the Ernest Hemingway Museum will join the art extravaganza. Popular bands, such as Los Van Van, Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco, Pupy y los que son son, and Havana D’Primera will give concerts at the Salón Rosado de la Tropical, El Sauce, Café Miramar, Submarino Amarillo and Fresa y Chocolate night-clubs and recreation centers as part of Habanarte.
The Visual Arts Center in Old Havana has organized an exhibition for the event in which participants and art lovers will be able to enjoy important Cuban artists Nelson Domínguez, Zaida del Río, Roberto Diago, Eduardo Roca «Choco», Ernesto Rancaño and others do their work live.
