Carlos Acosta at the Royal Opera House
London, July 31 (RHC)-- The Acosta Danza company closed its days of tribute to Cuban prima ballerina Carlos Acosta, for five decades of life of the star of ballet in Cuba, the stage of the Royal Opera House in this capital.
Carlos Acosta once again left his mark today on the stage of the prestigious British company where he presented the gala Carlos at 50.
The institution itself announced the birthday ceremony and each presentation date, from July 26 to 30, began with a large dance cast with scenes each night of Tocororo, the first choreography created by the award-winning dancer, leader of Acosta Danza, according to his social networks.
At the iconic London proscenium, the audience enjoyed a program that included Georges Balanchine's Apollo, with Acosta in the title role alongside Marianela Núñez, prima ballerina of the Royal Ballet of London.
They were accompanied by Celine Gittens, first figure of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, and Lucy Waine, young dancer of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, according to the Cuban company's Facebook profile.
Scenes from the ballet Carmen, in Acosta's version, were also presented, performed by dancers from his company and led by Laura Rodriguez and Alejandro Silva.
The pas de deux of the white swan from Swan Lake was performed by the honoree and Marianela Núñez.
Each gala featured performances by world dance gems, such as Laurretta Summerscales and Yonah Acosta, leading figures of the Bavarian State Ballet, who danced the pas de deux El Corsario, while Yaoqyan Shang, of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, and Jesús Corrales, of Acosta Danza, took on the duet End of Time, by British choreographer Ben Stevenson.
Valéry Panov's solo Liebestod featured Birmingham Royal Ballet dancer Brandon Laurence, and the bedroom scene from Sir Kenneth MacMillan's ballet Manon was performed by Acosta and Marianela Núñez.
The death of two swans, a recreation of the original choreography by Mikhail Fokin, was performed by Zeleidy Crespo, Raúl Reinoso and Mario Sergio Elías, dancers from Acosta Danza.
To close the birthday celebrations of the renowned Cuban dancer, Acosta returned on this last day to the stage, along with dancer Laura Rodriguez to perform Mermaid, a duet created by Belgian choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, especially for the award-winning Cuban prima ballerina. (Source:PL)
