Expectations for performance of Cuban group Síntesis in Cali, Colombia
Colombia, Aug 17 (RHC) The billboard of the Petronio Álvarez Pacific Music Festival today highlights the performance scheduled for tonight of the Cuban group Síntesis, international guest at the event that celebrates Afro-Colombian culture.
In exclusive statements to Prensa Latina, the group's director, Carlos Alfonso, said that being able to participate in one of the largest folklore festivals in the Americas is a great honor.
“We had been in Cali about 10 years ago, we really enjoyed the presentation we made, but it was a small place and did not have the connotation of this event,” he said.
The multi-awarded musician consented to give a preview of what they will offer to those who come to their concert in this city, which since last 14th and until next 19th hosts the festivities.
“Our repertoire includes everything that is Afro-Cuban music, original compositions that respect all forms of Afro-Cuban music, in its songs, its rhythms, which we have also transformed into our style,” he said.
He also acknowledged that throughout all the years of work the band has enriched the rhythm of the batá drums, and it is these that dictate what will be done with the rest of the instruments.
In addition to the presentation of Síntesis, the festival program includes for this day the performance of the Colombian group Herencia de Timbiquí.
There will also be a Parade of Colonies with Ecos de Matronas and Nidia Góngora (Colombia), Thobile Makhoyane (Eswatini) and Didã (Brazil).
As disclosed, during the festival, attendees will enjoy the performances of two thousand artists and 47 competing groups in various indigenous musical modalities such as the chirimía, marimba and traditional songs. (Source: Prensa Latina)
