Buenos Aires, January 5 (RHC) Over 700 participants kicked off the 35th Rally Dakar competition, the sixth of its kind that takes place in Latin America, as bikes, quads, and heavy vehicles left the start line early on Sunday.
Motorbikes and quads were the first to start the race, followed by the rest of the vehicles, which departed at 8. 50 local time.
The 9-thousand-kilometer race also includes Bolivia and Chile in a route described by experts as more complicated than in previous versions of this sports event.
The circuit includes 1 thousand kilometers on the road meaning that the pilots will have to go on 5 thousand kilometers of special challenges. The event is under the criticism of environmentalist organizations that consider it harmful to the natural areas where it takes place.
