Havana, July 13 (RHC) – Oscar Luis Colas, the ultimate utility player in Cuban baseball, will not be flying to Lima to play in the Pan-Am games.
According to Ricardo Eizmendiz, the versatile player was not given the green light to go to Lima by his team SoftBank Hawks, since he will fill in for Yurisbel Gracial in the Japanese team for they both play in the outfield.
‘During the conversations with the Japanese team, we asked them to let us use not only Alfredo Despaigne, Yurisbel Gracial, and pitchers Livan Moinelo and Raidel Martinez, but also Colas.’ Eizmendiz said.
Oscar Luis Colas, playing for the second division team of the Hawks, had a batting average of 296 (second in the league), 9 Homers, 36 RBIs and he was leader in Doubles with 12.
The Santiago native plays the outfield, 1st base and also pitches, which makes him one of the top prospects both in Japanese and Cuban baseball.
