Boston, Massachusetts, September 10 (RHC) - Three months after being shot at in his country, the Dominican former baseball player David Ortiz thanked the support and their wishes for a fast recovery shown by his fans, and baseball lovers all over the world.
Ortiz, known in the world of baseball as "Big Papi", threw the first pitch of this Monday's game against the New York Yankees at Fenway Park, home of the last team he played for in the MLB, the Boston Red Sox.
"I want to thank you all for the all the prayers, I truely apreciate it, thank you very much", said the former power hitter from the mound.
Ortiz recognized, especially, the support from his teammates, and also from the Yankees, the Red Sox' eternal rivals, as well as from CC Sabathia (with whom Ortiz shared locker room during his time in the Cleveland Indians) and from also Dominican player Edwin Encarnacion.
Wearing a white Home Club jersey with the number 34 on the back, retired by the Boston Red Sox as homage, and black plants, Ortiz entered the field as the crown received him with a standing ovation.
Later on, when the game began, Ortiz sat on the first row, on a side of the Home Club dogout, and gave the jersey to a kid who was sitting a couple rows back.
In late July this year, the television channel ESPN reported that Ortiz had been checked out from the Massachusetts General Hospital and he was at his house in Boston, where he would carry on with his recovery.
