Las Tunas beats Matanzas in semi-final of 60th National Baseball Series
Havana, March 8 (RHC)-- The Leñadores of Las Tunas defeated the Cocodrilos of Matanzas by a score of 4 to 2 and came out ahead in the semifinal play off of the 60th National Baseball Series (SNB) of Cuba.
Carlos Juan Viera walked the entire route for Las Tunas and had a nice duel with Matanzas left-hander Yoanni Yera. Viera allowed ten hits in nine innings of work, struck out five and only gave away a couple of tickets, confirming himself as the most valuable player in the postseason for Las Tunas.
The offensive standouts for the Leñadores were Andrés Quiala (5-2, 1CI, 1Hr) and his fourth starter Yosvani Alarcón (4-3, 1CI).
The second game of this series will be played on Monday, March 8th. The names of Noelvis Entenza for Matanzas and Yudiel Rodríguez for Las Tunas sound as possible starters.
The winner of this play-off will face in the final the Alazanes de Granma, winners of the other semifinal against the Vegueros de Pinar del Río, four games to two.
