Havana, September 9 (RHC)-- Cuban discus thrower Yaime Perez is seeking this Thursday the crown in her specialty in the Diamond League, in which she arrives as leader to the final phase in Zurich (Switzerland), in a close fight with Croatian Sandra Perkovic.
World champion in Doha-2019 and Olympic bronze in Tokyo-2020, Yaimé leads the prestigious athletics event with 30 points, only 2 ahead of Perkovic, while the brand new Olympic champion Valery Allman is third (20).
In the current season, Yaime Perez took the victories in the diamond stops in Doha (May) and Brussels (last September 3), where she beat Allman and Perkovic.
Another Cuban, Denia Caballero, in fourth place overall with 14 points, will also be in Zurich.
Portugal's Liliana Cá and Croatia's Marija Tolj will also be in the final.
The Zurich stop began on Wednesday and among the highlights of the day was the victory of Mariya Lasitskene in the high jump, who cleared 2.05 m to improve her Tokyo 2020 result by one centimeter.
Other winners were Serbia's Ivana Spanovic with 6.96 in the long jump, USA's Ryan Crouser, with 22.67, and Ethiopia's Berihu Aregami in the 5000m, with 12.58.65 min.
