Santo Domingo, September 13 (RHC/PL)-- The women's Pan American Volleyball Cup will begin today at the Ricardo Arias Volleyball Palace in Santo Domingo, with the participation of six teams.

The Puerto Rican and Canadian teams will be in charge of the first match of the day in the afternoon, followed by the United States-Mexico clash and the Dominican Republic-Cuba match will close the day, after a brief opening ceremony.

The event, in which tickets to the Pan American Games of Chile 2023 and points for the ranking will be in dispute, will be carried out through a round robin that will define who will advance to the semifinal stage.

According to the Cup's schedule, the semifinals will be played on September 18 and the medals will be played one day later, that is, on the 19th.

This Sunday, the coaches of the teams present spoke to the press about their teams and their aspirations.

Marcos Kwiek, coach of the Dominican Republic, said that as host, he will field a competitive team every day, although he will give opportunities to the younger players in order to introduce them to their fans.

For his part, the helmsman of the Cuban sextet, Joel Olazabal, said that they are bringing a young team with the aim of giving the players the opportunity to play, because since 2019 they have not participated in tournaments and are eager to prove their worth, but 'the goal is to reach the highest possible position and fight toe to toe against the rest of the teams'.

The other directors spoke in a similar way, since in general all the teams are full of new players with whom they are looking to battle for the victory.
