Cuba comes in fifth in Cali-Valle 2021

Havana, December 6 (RHC)-- Cuba finished this Sunday in fifth place at the First Pan American Junior Games Cali-Valle 2021, with 70 medals: (29 gold, 19 silver and 22 bronze).

The protagonists of the bronze metal were Diana Leyva Dinza and Marcos Antonio Rojas, who closed the spoils of the Cuban delegation on this day, with the mixed relay of the modern pentathlon.

Brazil (59-49-56) led the medal tally, ahead of host Colombia (48-34-63), the United States (47-29-38), Mexico (46-78-48) and Cuba (29-19-22) became the top five countries in the standings, which closed with 19 nations with at least one title.

From sixth to 19th were Argentina (18-22-32), Ecuador (15-14-24), Chile (12-15-31), Puerto Rico (8-4-8), Uruguay (8-3-3), Venezuela (7-8-21), Peru (6-14-14), Dominican Republic (5-8-10), Canada (4-1-5), Paraguay (2-4-4), Costa Rica (2-3-5), Aruba (2-1-0), Guatemala (1-5-10) and Bolivia (1-1-2), in that order.

Cuba moved to fifth place on Wednesday, November 1, after appearing sixth on Tuesday, November 30, with 7-8-6, which shows that in the last five days of the Games it achieved 22-11-16, a result that would also have placed it in fifth place.

Athletics (9-6-3), followed by Greco-Roman and wrestling (9-3-3-3), boxing (4-1-1), judo (2-2-3), diving (2-2-1), canoeing (2-1-0) and table tennis (1-1-5), all with at least one gold medal.

Weightlifting (0-2-1), beach volleyball (0-1-0), baseball (0-0-1), karate (0-0-1), fencing (0-0-1), rowing (0-0-1) and modern pentathlon (0-0-1) completed the list of winning disciplines.

Special mention should be made of the 13 multi-medalists, led by diver Anisley García (2-0-1), ornamentalists Aydel Domínguez and Luis Gustavo Cañabate (1-1-0) and tennis player Deniela Fonseca (1-0-3).

They were joined by judoists Omar Cruz and Thalia Nariño (1-0-1), owners of at least one title and qualified for the 2023 Pan American Games in Chile, as well as the other 23 Cuban champions -29-.

The list of athletes with several medals also includes tennis player Eday Enrique Gómez (0-1-3), judokas Sergueis Rodríguez and Idelannis Gómez (0-1-1), tennis player Rene Alejandro Méndez (0-1-1), judokas Thailen Castillo and Kimy Bravo (0-0-2) and tennis player Karen Pérez (0-0-2).
