Havana, January 12 (RHC)-- Caribes de Anzoategui beat Cardenales de Lara 5-2 to remain as the lone leader of the semifinal round of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP).
Outfielder Rafael Ortega and designated player Balbino Fuenmayor led the Caribes offense with two RBIs apiece in the game, which was won by Jean Toledo in relief.
In the other game of the day, Leones del Caracas overcame Navegantes del Magallanes 6-3, with the leading role played by the leadoff hitter José Flores, 3-2 with two runs batted in; and the catcher Jhonny Pereda, who hit 4-2 with two runs batted in.
After these results, Anzoátegui leads the fight for the qualification to the grand finals with a balance of 8-4, in a tough battle with Magallanes and Lara (7-5), while Tigres de Aragua (5-7) and Caracas (3-9) close the standings.
The LVBP semifinal round will continue this Wednesday with the duels Navegantes-Tigres and Leones-Cardenales, always at the home of the first two teams.
