Leyanis Perez
Havana, September 5 (JIT) - The young Cuban triple jumper Leyanis Pérez won third place in the XXXV City of Padova 2022 Athletics Meeting, in Italy, included in the bronze category of the World Athletics Continental Tour.
The promising jumper from the Island, finalist in this same event during the World Athletics Championships in Oregon 2022, obtained a mark of 14.53 meters to escort Jamaican Shanieka Ricketts (14.72) and Thea Lafond, from Dominica, owner of 14.71.
Leyanis once again confirmed that she is one of the triple jumpers to follow and repeated her stability with all her jumps over 14 meters.
The young woman started the competition with a foul, but then chained records of 14.47, 14.46 and 14.19 meters, before the mark that guaranteed her a place among the winners. She closed with a zero jump.
Although several elite jumpers were absent from the event, it was very close, as only two of the nine contestants failed to jump over 14 meters.
Behind the Cuban, with marks above that limit, were the Dominican Ana Lucía José Tima (14.20 meters), the locals Dariya Derkach (14.18) and Ottavia Cestonaro (14.17), and the Slovenian Neja Filipic (14.02).
In other events of the competition with relevant results, the American Bryce Deadmon dominated the 400 meters with a record for the event of 44.76 seconds.
His compatriot Yared Nuguse imitated him in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:33.26 minutes, and Dalilah Muhammad, also from the north of the country, stopped the clocks in 53.84 seconds in the lap around the oval hurdles.
