Havana, November 11 (ACN)-- Cuban Leuris Pupo, double Olympic medalist, and his teammates Jorge Félix Álvarez and Alejandro Delgado will debut this Friday in the 25-meter (m) rapid fire pistol, corresponding to the Pan American Championship to be held in Lima, Peru, until the 13th.
Pupo, champion in the summer event in London 2012 and winner of the silver medal in Tokyo 2020, will lead Cuba's pistol shooters, who will go in search of good results in the qualifying phase to try to be included among the eight finalists of that event.
That modality is composed of two stages in which the shooters perform three series of shots in each one.
Pupo and Álvarez arrive at this competition after their participation in the World Shooting Championship held in Cairo, Egypt, until October 27.
In that universal competition, Pupo finished in 16th place by accumulating 580 points in the qualifying round, in which he added 288 units (97-98-93) in the second day and was four points behind the eighth classified to the final.
On the first day, the athlete from the province of Holguin had placed 12th with a score of 292 (99-98-95).
Also for the Caribbean nation Alvarez, monarch at the Pan American Games in Lima 2019 and owner of the bronze metal at the World Cup in Munich, Germany, in 2018, totaled 567 to place 48th.
So far in the Pan American on Peruvian soil the Cubans have conquered two gold metals, one silver and two bronze, in addition to eight tickets to the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023.
