Havana, April 28 (RHC) - Cuba dawned Friday with 107 medals, 42 of them gold, in second place in the ALBA Games, behind host Venezuela, which has 159 titles.

On the most recent day, triumphs in cycling, athletics, weightlifting and wrestling stood out.

Thalía Díaz became the Cuban queen of the 5th ALBA Games at the Teo Capriles velodrome, winning her third gold medal.

The cyclist dominated the keirin race in a surprising way, to become the maximum winner of titles for Cuba.

To her keirin title, the cyclist added her gold medals in the individual and team sprint.

In the men's cycling, the most outstanding Cuban cyclist was Yansel Arias, who won the silver medal in the keirin.

In athletics, the Cubans Roxana Gómez and Lisneidys Veitía opened with gold and silver in the 400 meters flat, and then in the afternoon they closed with the title as part of the mixed relay, which was completed by Yoandys Lescay and Yoao Illas.

Roxana, Olympic finalist and world champion in the 4x400 relay in 2021, clocked 50.73 seconds, seventh world time of the season and her best record so far this year.

The best Cuban runner of the moment also closed in a spectacular way the mixed relay, which set Cuba's national record with 3.17.33.

Cuba's Yanscarlos Hernandez confirmed himself as a decathlete on the rise, taking the gold (7329 points) ahead of his teammate Briander Rivero and host Carlos Cordoba.

Cuba also won titles in the men's and women's 100m, 1500m (f) and 100m hurdles (f).

Reynaldo Espinosa and Yunisleidy de la Caridad García (11.22) were crowned in the fastest women's race, Rose Mary Almanza (4:25.69) in the 1500 m and Keily Perez (13.84) in the 100 m hurdles (f).

In weightlifting, Arley L. Calderón (67 kg) led the Cuban weightlifters in the second day of this sport.

The 24-year-old won two gold medals with a heave of 156 kilograms in the flyweight and 281 in the biathlon. He also won silver in the snatch.

Meanwhile, Yailiana Lopez (59 kg) won three silver medals.

In wrestling, Cuba won two medals of each color.

Yusneilys Guzmán (50 kg) and the standard bearer Milaymis Marín Potrillé (76 kg) climbed to the top of the podium in another day of domination by the Venezuelan teams.

Guzman defeated in the final the host Mariana Rojas (6-0), while Milaymis passed over the Venezuelan Neirilis Banguero and Maria Acosta by technical superiority and score of 6-0, respectively.

The first part of the Cuban delegation attending the V ALBA Games returned to the homeland on Thursday night.

The group, made up of about 100 people, was received at José Martí International Airport by Raúl Fornés, first vice-president of Inder.
