Havana, July 24 (JIT) -- Three Cubans will dive into the pool this Tuesday during the Fukuoka 2023 World Aquatic Sports Championships.
Julio Calero will do it for the second time, this time in the 50m breaststroke, and the main figure of the island, Elisbet Gamez, will debut in the 200m freestyle, and Rodolfo Falcon Jr. in the 800m.
Calero made his first appearance on Sunday in the 100-meter breaststroke. She achieved a time of 1.04.51, far from her personal best of 1.03.54, to place 55th among 70 competitors.
Something similar happened with Andrea Becali on Monday, when she timed 1:04.28 minutes in the 100 backstroke and placed 43rd among 62 competitors. Her best record dates back to last year and is 1.03.70, Cuban primacy.
Despite the closeness of this competition with the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023, where she won two gold medals and an equal number of bronze medals, the 19-year-old girl surpassed the time of 1:04.72 achieved in the world edition of Budapest 2022.
