Havana, November 6 (JIT)-- Cuban pelota players Daniela Darriba and Wendy Durán added the last Cuban medal to the medal table of the XIX Pan American Games by winning the subtitle in frontennis.

Although that medal had been assured beforehand, it was only after Sunday's final match against Mexicans Ximena Placito and Ariana Cepeda that it was confirmed in the table.

In the end, the Aztecs dominated in sets of 16-5 and 15-8 to give their country the first of two crowns in the sport this day.

Daniela and Wendy's prize was the second for the Island in Basque pelota, as earlier Cristian Abreu had also won silver in frontbol.

The Mexican domination, as expected, turned out to be broad, to the point of capturing six of the eight titles in dispute.

Four years ago, in Lima 2019, our pelotaris won five silver medals and one bronze, in a competition also dominated by Mexico but with less ease.

The other Cuban performances on this date took place at the skating rink of the National Stadium of Chile, with speed skating.

Adriana Cantillo finished tenth in her qualifying heat of the 500 plus distance, with a time of 47.172 seconds, which meant she did not advance to the semifinals. In her other event here, the 200 meters goal to goal, she had finished in 11th place with a time of 20.927 seconds.

The other skater from the island present here, Rocio del Alba Proenza, finished eleventh in the 10,000 meters elimination and in the 1,000 meters sprint, the latter with a time of 1:36.707 minutes.

Cuba has never been on the podium in this sport.
