Havana, November 28 (JIT) -- The seventh place achieved by Cuba in the VII Parapan American Games reedited the performance achieved in Lima 2019.

On this occasion, after being overtaken by Chile, it had to overcome the Canadian delegation to maintain the ranking.

From the forecast of 13 gold medals, one less was achieved. The misfortune that assaulted the last day, in which they could have even improved that figure, prevented it.

Manuel Alejandro's defeat in the final of the SU5 category in badminton, against Brazil's Yuki Roberto Rodrigues, and Omara Durand's disqualification in the 400 meters flat ruined what could have been the 14th title.

There was another elusive crown, that of Mitchel Suarez (70 kg) in taekwondo, who lost due to a blunder in the last second of his bout against Argentina's Juan Samorano.

Considering the particulars of these escaped gold medals, it can be noted that the prognosis was not overly optimistic.

Del Rosario fell in a good fight against Rodrigues, an opponent he had beaten before, in a tournament in which he had only lost one set to the strong Peruvian Jairo Aranguri. Suarez reached the last seconds with a five-point lead and only a mistake in the plan deprived him of celebrating. Omara's strict verdict of the judges took the medal she won on the court from her neck.

On the other hand, other unexpected crowns fell... Daniel Milanés stole the show in the 400 meters T47 category, and Ever Castro was powerful in the javelin throw for the T41 category, setting a Parapan American record.

In terms of marks, the Cuban delegation also took center stage with one of the five world records broken, that of Robiel Yankiel Sol in the long jump T47 with a leap of 7.74 meters.

Five other records for the Parapan American Games were set by our athletes: the 560 points of Alexander Reyna in the 10-meter air pistol qualifier; the 61.11 meters of Ulicer Aguilera in the javelin F13; the 60.23 meters of Guillermo Varona in that category of the F45/46 category; and the 23.59 seconds of Omara Durand to complete the 200-meter T12.

The 35 medals obtained, the exact amount of the forecast, endorse the accuracy and realism of the analysis made, while making it clear that Cuba's participation in these Games can be assessed as positive.
