Havana, January 19 (RHC).- The Italian Piacenza of Cuban star Robertlandy Simón won in three sets against Berlin of Germany and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Volleyball Champions League.
In a Group C match, played at the Max Schmeling Sports Center in Halle, the visitors won in three sets 25-15, 25-23 and 25-19, in front of almost 5700 spectators.
Yuri Romano (20 points) was the top scorer for the Italian club and deserved the distinction of MVP of the match, although Simon also shone for the winners (9 points, 2 in blocking and 1 in service, with a remarkable 70 percent effectiveness in attack.
Simon, who is due to join the Cuban team in the upcoming Nations League, played only two sets against Berlin.
Piacenza topped the group with 5-1, followed by HalkBank of Turkey (4-2), Berlin 3-3 and in fourth place Sport Lisboa of Portugal 0-6.
