Camagüey, May 24 (PL).- Sol Miguel Cuevas, one of the first power hitters who played in the Cuban championships, died today at the age of 89, as announced by the Cuban Baseball Federation.

Known as Don Miguel, he debuted in the first National Series wearing the colors of Azucareros at the age of 26 and remained for 13 seasons, standing out as a right-handed hitter with great power at bat in an era where the laws were dictated from the mound.

During his successful career with the Azucareros, Orientales, Granjeros and Camagüey teams, he had an offensive average of .279 with 880 hits, including 127 hits, 17 triples and 83 home runs.

He participated in 10 foreign events representing Cuba and in the 1963 Pan American Games he hit three home runs in the same game, a record that remains in force for those tournaments.

He batted 61 times in international competitions where he had 22 hits, including six doubles, two triples and five home runs with 16 RBIs.

It hurts to know that Sol Miguel Cuevas Piedra, an emblematic figure of Cuban Baseball, has passed away. His name marked more than 10 national series and several Cuban teams.
