IV World Roller Skating Games
Havana, Sept 16 (JIT) The last week of competitions of the IV World Roller Skating Games of Italy 2024 began with the Colombian and Italian teams immersed in a tough battle to dominate the medal tally by countries of the competition.
The hosts are currently leading the competition with 21 titles, 22 silver medals and 19 bronze medals, followed by Colombia (13-8-4), Germany (10-10-10) and China (8-10-5).
The Colombians started the fastest skating modality with impetuosity and after adding two golds this Sunday, they lead the specialty, with three dates left for the end of the competition at the Montesilvano rink.
Yicel Camila Giraldo, in the 1,000 meters youth category for women, and María Fernanda Timms, in the 500 meters + distance for senior women, were the gold medalists of the tricolor team on Sunday and also added a subtitle with Kollin Andrea Castro in the 500 meters + distance for senior women.
This Monday, the 3,000 meters for both sexes will take place.
In addition to Colombia's performance, the American continent has made itself felt in these Games with relevant results in other disciplines.
Vertical skateboarding crowned Brazil's Gui Khury, with the silver medal going to his compatriot Augusto Akio and the bronze to Collin Graham of the United States.
In artistic skating, the good news came from world and Pan American champion Collin Motley, from the United States, who defended his favoritism in inline skating in the senior men's category.
Racing skating will close on September 21, the last day of the event, with the second stage of the World Skate Marathon Tour 2024, to be held in Pescara.
The first stage of this event was held in Shanghai, China, last April.
There, the Ecuadorian world champion Gabriela Vargas and the Winter Olympic title holder, the Belgian Bart Swings, were crowned. Both will try to retain the green jersey, which has become the symbol of the marathon leader.
