Ulsan-KBO 2024 Autumn League

Havana, Oct 29 (PL) The Cuban baseball team preparing for the Premier 12 tournament defeated today the Goyang Heroes 14-3 and concluded its participation in the South Korean Ulsan-KBO 2024 Autumn League.

Only 15 days away from their debut in the most important event organized by the World Baseball and Softball Confederation, where the 12 top-ranked countries in the world will meet, Armando Johnson's team showed offensive power by hitting 18 hits.

After losing in their first game against the NC Dinos, the Antilleans defeated the Chinese Jiangsu Huge Horses and the local LG Twins in games that have been very profitable for their preparation before the main competition.

In today's challenge, 11 of the 14 players who took the batting box hit at least one hit, with Yoelkis Guibert, Roberto Baldoquín, Rafael Viñales, Yadil Mujica, Taylon Sánchez, Andy Cosme, and Guillermo Avilés, each of them with two hits.

A total of seven pitchers pitched on the mound behind starter Pavel Hernández, who allowed one run in two innings of work, as did his substitute Yusniel Padrón.

Andy Vargas took the other run from his rivals, while Raymond Figueredo, Geonel Gutiérrez, Leodán Reyes, Frank Luis Medina, and Frank Abel Álvarez each put one run apiece on the board.

At the end of the game, mentor Johnson told Jit digital media that these preparation games allowed all the team members to be active and to exploit their versatility. “The pitchers did the work that was planned for them, in accordance with the number of pitches and the roles they were assigned, without violating anything in search of results, and in general we are satisfied with the results of these games,” he said.

Next Friday and Saturday the Cuban team will face the national team of South Korea, which was placed in the same group in the Premier 12, which also includes the Dominican Republic, Australia, Japan, and the hosts of Chinese Taipei.
