Hanoi, December 5 (RHC)-- Flash floods caused by torrential downpours since late November have claimed the lives of at least 13 people in central Vietnam. A government report said on Sunday that six people had been killed in floods in Binh Dinh province since Thursday and another four died in Quang Ngai province.
The Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper cited a provincial report as saying that more than 10,000 homes in the two provinces were also submerged.
On Saturday, three children aged between four and 13 drowned in flood waters in Quang Nam province.
The fresh floods come just weeks after at least 15 people lost their lives throughout central Vietnam during week-long heavy rains that triggered widespread floods in early November.
According to the government report, a cold snap now moving southward is forecast to bring heavy rain to central provinces between now and Thursday. Floods have killed at least 65 people since October in the central provinces.
The floods caused by heavy rains have also submerged 200,000 homes and damaged railway and roads, with losses valued at more than 7 trillion dong ($309 million).
