Washington, April 22 (RHC)-- CNN is reporting that the Donald Trump administration has prepared an arrest warrant for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. According to the report, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions confirmed that the Justice Department is seeking to put Assange in jail.
In Washington, Sessions told reporters: "We have professionals that have been in the security business of the United States for many years that are shocked by the number of leaks. And some of them are quite serious. We've already begun to step up our efforts. And whenever a case can be made, we will seek to put people in jail."
Last week, CIA chief Mike Pompeo blasted WikiLeaks as a "hostile intelligence service," calling Julian Assange and his supporters "demons." That is despite Pompeo's praise for WikiLeaks on Twitter last year and despite a comment from Donald Trump on the campaign trail last October -- saying he loved WikiLeaks -- because it revealed internal documents critical of Hillary Clinton's campaign.
Julian Assange has spent nearly five years in Ecuador's embassy in London, where he has been granted political asylum, but has not been given safe passage to leave the embassy compound unhindered. British authorities have surrounded the embassy and threaten to arrest him if he steps out.
