Caracas, February 11 (RHC) -- Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called on all revolutionary forces to be alert, following an outbreak of violence in some states linked to the opposition.
On Monday, Maduro said: "There are some who are looking for deaths to create chaos in the country and we will enforce the law. I call on the whole country to defend democracy, the Revolution and the legacy of (Hugo) Chavez."
The president said he had given precise instructions to all police and security forces to peacefully suppress any protest that went beyond limits, though he said the government would not take a soft line with those who were promoting violence.
Wednesday marks the bicentennial of the Battle of La Victoria, which defended the nascent Second Republic of Venezuela. Both political forces have called for massive demonstrations in the capital and other cities.
