Caracas, November 6 (RHC)-- Opposition lawmaker and deputy leader of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Freddy Guevara, has entered the residence of the Chilean ambassador to Venezuela, Pedro Ramirez, where he is seeking refuge. 

A statement issued by the Chilean Foreign Ministry notes that "The Government of Chile has granted (Guevara) the quality of guest of our Embassy." 

Guevara, a 31 year-old who runs the right-wing Popular Will party, sought refuge in Ramirez's residence in Caracas after Venezuela's Supreme Court of Justice announced a request to strip his parliamentary immunity. The request included a ban for him leaving the country due to inciting violence during anti-government protests between April and June 2017. 

Several images taken during those violent anti-government protests, which left more than one hundred people dead, show Freddy Guevara rallying behind demonstrators, in some cases giving them 'pep talks' and directing their actions.

Accused of being illegally designated as magistrates by the opposition-run Congress, five lawmakers have recently been welcomed at the Chilean diplomatic residence.  They included Elenis Rodriguez, Luis Marcano, Jose Nunez, Beatric Ruiz and Zuleima Del Valle, according to Business Insider, all of whom challenged Venezuela's existing Supreme Court. 

All five have since escaped by crossing the border to Colombia and, from there, flying to Santiago de Chile.
