Havana, November 17 (RHC)-- The 9th International Meeting on Researchers and Experts on Information and Communications (ICOM 2017) wrapped up on Friday here in Havana with the participation of over 400 researchers from 20 countries.
During the week-long meeting, held at Havana's International Convention Center -- the Palacio de Convenciones -- participants debated the role of the university in today's world, calling on higher education centers to encourage the country’s development and increase ties with civil society.
The President of the Academic Committee, Dr. Gloria Ponjuan, said that the event’s program also promoted a discussion on current issues and opportunities for Cuban society. She noted that more than 300 presentations were part of the 10 round tables carried out at ICOM 2017, which will also included master conferences, exhibition fairs and book presentations.
During the conference, the documentary “Detras del Velo: Tan cerca pero tan lejos” (Behind the Veil: So Close Yet So Far Away was presented, which is a co-production with the School of Communications of the University of Havana and the School of Global Journalism and Communication at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. The documentary highlights the exchanges between professors from both universities, with the objective of normalizing diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba.
