Berlin, April 19 (RHC)-- The left-wing Die Linke party held a rally in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin on Wednesday, where party leaders protested against the airstrikes carried out by the U.S., France and the UK in Syria over the past weekend.
During the protest, members waved peace flags and held up signs calling for an end to war. On stage, Die Linke co-chair Dietmar Bartsch criticized Germany's role in ongoing conflicts, as a weapons exporter. "Weapons don't make peace, they always end up in the wrong hands," Bartsch said.
Meanwhile, his co-leader Sahra Wagenknecht criticized the manner in which U.S. President Donald Trump approached the diplomatic issues between the U.S. and Russia. She said: "Where air raids are announced from one nuclear power to another nuclear power via Twitter, one thinks we're in the wrong movie. But it would be far too simple to say, 'Okay, there is a mad man in the White House, he wrote a tweet incorrectly and brought us all into danger.' No, it's still close. It is an escalation, where one step comes after the next."
Last week, the U.S., Britain and France carried out a string of airstrikes against Syria over a suspected chemical attack against Douma. Washington and its allies blamed Damascus for the alleged assault.
