Brasilia, February 7 (RHC)-- The government of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is preparing to end the More Doctors program, according to information by coordinator of the initiative, Mayra Pinheiro, reports Brasil de Fato portal. According to the website, steps had already been taken to dismantle the program since Michel Temer's coup in 2016.
Since the withdrawal in November last year of more than 8,000 Cuban doctors, following threats and disrespectful statements by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, three calls were made to fill their positions, however to date, 462 medical posts remain vacant.
The More Doctors program will likely be replaced by a new project, entitled More Health, stated Pinheiro, who also confirmed that there will be no new contacts and the program will be closed.
More Doctors, launched in 2013, by the Dilma Rousseff government was designed to provide medical care to the country’s most vulnerable and marginalized sectors
