La Paz, August 14 (RHC)-- The social and union sectors that have been mobilizing in Bolivia for the past week against the postponement of the presidential election date decided this Friday to end the protests and keep a "permanent vigil" until October 18th, the new date set by the de facto government for the elections.

According to a meeting between the leaders of the Bolivian Workers' Central (COB), the organization that has led the demonstrations, and other social and union leaders in the country, the vigil aims to ensure that the elections take place on the new date set. 

"The decision we have taken, from the executive committee of the COB, is to give a fourth intermediate to the conflict at a national level until October 18th," said the executive secretary of the COB, Juan Carlos Huarachi, during a press conference.

The Central Obrera Boliviana instructed the suspension of the general strike, which included more than 100 roadblocks.  Regarding the agreement, the vice president of the six federations of the Cochabamba Tropics, Andrónico Rodríguez, instructed the social movements and the bases of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) to suspend the actions for now.

"In the framework of the COB decisions, as six federations of the Cochabamba tropics, we also decreed a fourth intermediate in the general road blockade and declared a state of emergency and permanent surveillance until October 18," said Rodríguez.
