Santiago de Chile, January 29 (RHC)-- Argentinean President Alberto Fernandez and his wife, Fabiola Andrea Yáñez, made an "emotional visit" to the former office of Salvador Allende, in the Palacio de la Moneda, in Santiago de Chile, in the context of the official visit they are making to the neighboring country.

The daughter of Salvador Allende, Senator Isabel Allende Bussi, and his granddaughter, Marcia Tambutti Allende, greeted the Argentinean delegation upon their arrival.  They laid a wreath and unveiled a plaque commemorating the visit.  

After a luncheon offered by the Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado, in the Patio de Los Canelos of La Moneda, Alberto Fernandez went up to the second floor to visit the hall that recreates Allende's office and where he died on September 11, 1973.   

Initially, Alberto Fernandez's idea was to visit the tomb of the former Chilean president, but due to the COVID pandemic situation in Chile, that visit was not possible.

In September 2008, then Chilean President Michelle Bachelet inaugurated the restored hall where Allende died without having surrendered to the coup plotters who, commanded by General Augusto Pinochet, led a CIA-sponsored uprising that overthrew the Popular Unity Government.
