Mosquera, 26, was a student in the music program at the University of Cauca
Bogota, August 25 (RHC)-- Student leader Esteban Mosquera was murdered Monday afternoon by unknown persons in the center of the city of Popayán, in the department of Cauca, located in the southwest of Colombia, humanitarian sources reported.
"They just murdered in Popayán our comrade from UniCauca, student and social leader Esteban Mosquera in the heart of the city," denounced on her Twitter social network account the social activist Valentina Cardona Carvajal.
She mentioned that in 2018 "the State took his eye and today takes his life. Fly high Esteban, lucky those of us who were able to fight by your side."
Local journalists said that Mosquera, 26 years old, was killed by hired assassins, when he was walking in the neighborhood La Pamba, in the historic sector of Popayán.
The Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz) mentioned that Mosquera, who was studying the music program at the University of Cauca, lost his left eye in December 2018 due to the impact of an artifact thrown by the Mobile Anti-Riot Squad (Esmad) of the Colombian National Police.
"In the most recent national strike (the student leader) was part of the mobilizations in the alternative media 'Contra Portada'," Indepaz stated. In the evening hours of Monday there were registered demonstrations in the sector where the attack against Mosquera was committed, according to local media.
