Bolivian court rejects Jeanine Áñez's request to postpone restart of trial

La Paz, June 5 (RHC)-- The Constitutional Court of Bolivia rejected the request for explanation and complementation raised by the defense of former de facto president Jeanine Áñez, which sought to postpone the trial "Coup d'Etat II."

"The Admission Commission of the Plurinational Constitutional Tribunal, subject to Article 13.1 of the Constitutional Procedural Code; resolves to declare that the request for explanation and complementation filed by Jeanine Áñez is not accepted," stressed the document issued by the Bolivian entity.

According to the constitutional lawyer Israel Quino, the "procedural act does not change the ruling of the Plurinational Constitutional Tribunal pronounced by means of Constitutional Order 169/2022."   Constitutional Court rejected the request for explanation and complementation raised by the defense of Jeanine Añez, an appeal that sought to prevent the reinstatement, this Monday, of the "coup d'état II" trial, which is on the verge of sentencing.

Last May 30, Áñez's defense filed a request for complementation, explanation and amendment against the Constitutional Court's rejection of the unconstitutionality action filed on April 29, by the former de facto president, out of a total of more than 50 legal actions including challenges, nullities, freedom actions, constitutional protection actions, and other processes.

The First Anticorruption Sentencing Court of La Paz determined to continue for next Monday, June 6, 2022 with the ordinary trial, where former senator Jeanine Áñez is prosecuted for her self-proclamation as president of the country in 2019.

This accusation is based according to the Constitutional Court of Bolivia for the crimes, breach of duties and resolutions contrary to the Political Constitution of the State (CPE) and the laws, typified in articles 154 and 153 of the Penal Code.
