Mexico City, June 17 (RHC)-- The Mexican National Guard has intercepted a trailer truck travelling through Chiapas with a total of 366 migrants of 16 nationalities.
According to the National Migration Institute (INM), the migrants came from "Bangladesh, Cuba, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Bolivia, India, Peru, Ecuador, El Salvador, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Yemen, Dominican Republic and South Africa."
"Of the 366 foreigners rescued: 55 are women; 249 men; 22 female minors and 40 male minors" detailed the institutional twitter profile. These people were crammed in the vehicle's trailer so they were hydrated and checked by health authorities to verify their health status.
"They were traveling in 25 family nuclei and 25 minors were alone, unaccompanied by an adult. Formal notice was given to the respective consular representations and embassies," states the INM.
The driver was sent to the ministerial authorities to investigate the case, while the migrants were transferred to a temporary shelter.
The INM authorities detected the vehicle while patrolling in the town of Apic Pac in the municipality of Ocozocoautla de Espinosa, due to the voices that were heard and the people who began to stick their heads out of the roof.
The Mexican migration policy pursues a National Public Security Strategy which, together with the INM, intends to carry out rescue work for migrants crossing the country, who are often exposed to looting, violence and even natural dangers.
