Quito, June 24 (RHC)-- The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) denounced this Thursday repressive practices of the Police against protesters in a new day of the national strike, where they demand President Guillermo Lasso to prioritize social demands in the country.

The new case of repression occurred in Quito (capital) in the surroundings of the National Assembly and in the framework of the mobilization of women and young people who demand peace and guarantees to the right to peaceful protest, at the same time, social organizations denounced that the police used stun guns and tear gas.

The citizens reject the repressive acts ordered by the Government and insist on dialogue processes to seek solutions to the social problems the country is going through, as well as another alternative to assume the debt with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

For his part, the president of Conaie, Leonidas Iza, emphasized that police repression against the demonstrations represents a bad sign for a rapprochement between the Executive and the different indigenous movements of Ecuador.

The Assembly bench of the indigenous political movement Pachakutik reported last Wednesday the murder of a demonstrator as a result of repression by the authorities, "the victim was identified as Marcelino Villa, 38 years old," they said.
