Lima, August 22 (RHC)-- Peruvian President Pedro Castillo has denounced the intention of the Prosecutor's Office to arrest First Lady Lilia Paredes, who is accused of coordinating a criminal network.

"I know they are going to take my wife.  They want to shackle her (handcuff her) and they also want to shackle the rest of my family and they want to break me," said the president after learning of the arrest warrant for his wife.

The Peruvian head of state maintains that the investigations he is facing for alleged corruption are the result of a conspiracy between the Prosecutor's Office and sectors of the Parliament and the press that since the beginning of his administration have been trying to have the Congress dismiss him, due to his humble origins and for being an outsider to the power groups.

The Judicial Power suspended the hearing of the request for preventive imprisonment of President Castillo's sister-in-law, Yenifer Paredes, at the request of the parties.

The suspension of the hearing was ordered, after the defense of Paredes and the mayor of Anguía, Nenil Medina requested more time to study the file and the Prosecutor's Office also for having new elements to incriminate Pedro Castillo's sister-in-law.

The Third National Preparatory Investigation Court rescheduled the hearing of Yenifer Paredes for August 23 and that of Nenil Medina for the 24th, qualifying the referred dates as unpostponable.
