The attack on one of the holiest Muslim sites in East Jerusalem occurred amid an unprecedented internal crisis in Israel
Brussels, Apr 8 (RHC) The European Union (EU) on Saturday condemned the new escalation of tensions in the Middle East, following Israel's attack on the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and the airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.
In a press release, Josep Borrell, EU Higher Representative for Foreign Policy and International Security, addressed the conflict between the Israeli Government and the Resistance Movement Hamas. He urged stakeholders to take action with restraint in the conflict.
We call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent a further escalation and promote peace during the religious holidays, Borrell said in his communiqué.
He added that the rise in violence in the Middle East followed the attack by Israeli forces on the aforementioned mosque and the reaction of Palestinian resistance that responded by launching rockets from neighborhoods in southern Lebanon.
The attack on one of the holiest Muslim sites in East Jerusalem occurred amid an unprecedented internal crisis in Israel, where millions of people took to the streets to protest against a judicial reform and demand the Government’s resignation. (Source: PL)
