Buenos Aires, June 19 (RHC)-- In Argentina, the national government and leaders of the ruling party reject the violent repression carried out by the Jujuy police in the city of Purmamarca, where demonstrators were protesting against the partial reform of the provincial Magna Carta, which limits the right to social protest.  The Government insisted Governor Gerardo Morales to cease violence and listen to the demands of the people.

In response to the events in Purmamarca, the spokesperson of the Presidency, Gabriela Cerruti, expressed on Twitter: "We ask Governor Gerardo Morales to put down his arms and listen to the people."  Likewise, the presidential pre-candidate and Chief of Cabinet of the Nation, Agustín Rossi, expressed his repudiation to the brutal police repression and offered his solidarity to the victims.

Horacio Pietragalla, National Secretary of Human Rights, emphasized that a Constitution can never be imposed through repression by the Government and demanded Morales to attend to the demands of the people and stop the violence.

National Senator Anabel Fernández Sagasti expressed her solidarity with the people of Jujuy, while National Deputy Eduardo Toniolli affirmed that the anti-Peronists are willing to eliminate the rights of the workers and the people, regardless of their political stance.

Furthermore, National Deputy Leopoldo Moreau emphasized the contradiction between the events occurred in Jujuy and the commemoration of the death of General Martín Miguel de Güemes, who defended the homeland. For his part, Hugo Yasky, national deputy and head of the CTA de los Trabajadores, repudiated the repression and held Morales and those who support him responsible for the consequences of such violence.

The repression in Jujuy generated a strong condemnation by the leaders of the ruling party, who flooded the social networks with messages repudiating Governor Morales.  They continue to demand that the governor abandon violence and listen to the demands of the people.  Meanwhile, society is waiting expectantly for a peaceful solution to this worrying situation that has caused tensions in the democratic coexistence.
