Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutte

Brussels, November 13 (RCH)-- Belgium says it wants sanctions against Israel over its bloodshed in the war-torn Gaza Strip, as the regime continues its deadly bombing campaign in the besieged Palestinian enclave.

In an interview with Nieuwsblad newspaper, Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutte urged Brussels on Wednesday to adopt sanctions against Tel Aviv and launch a probe into the bombings of hospitals and refugee camps in Gaza.

“It is time for sanctions against Israel. The rain of bombs is inhumane. It is clear that Israel does not care about the international demands for a ceasefire,” she said.

Israel waged the war on Gaza on October 7, after the territory’s resistance movements carried out a surprise attack against the occupying entity, dubbed Operation al-Aqsa Storm, in response to unrelenting Israeli crimes against Palestinians.

De Sutter further stressed that the European Union should immediately suspend its Association Agreement with Tel Aviv, which aims at better economic and political cooperation, calling for the implementation of a ban on imports from Israel.

She also emphasized that Israel’s violent settlers, politicians, and soldiers responsible for war crimes should be banned from entering the EU.

For weeks, Israel has been violently pounding almost all areas and facilities of the blockaded territory, including hospitals, schools and residential buildings, rejecting all calls for a ceasefire in the region.

Elsewhere in her remarks, De Sutter said that Brussels should boost funding for the International Criminal Court in The Hague to investigate the bombings.

The Israeli regime is also pressing ahead with its ground offensive in Gaza, with the military saying its forces are now operating in the heart of Gaza City.
