Peru issues epidemiological alert for dengue fever epidemic

Lima, February 27 (RHC)-- The National Center for Epidemiology, Prevention and Disease Control (CDC Peru) of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) of Peru issued this Monday an epidemiological alert for dengue epidemic, after hours earlier 20 regions were confirmed with increasing numbers of cases.

According to the agency, the alert is aimed at "adopting comprehensive measures that contribute to the control of the epidemic; as well as the care and adequate follow-up of patients with dengue with warning signs and severe dengue".

The Peruvian health ministry indicated that so far 28 people have died, therefore Minister César Vásquez stated that the accumulated number of cases this year is 24,981, with 19 cases yet to be confirmed.

The data provided by the entity confirms that these figures represent a considerable increase of 95 percent compared to the same period of 2023, where a total of 12,264 infections were registered.

Likewise, 18 deaths were reported during the same period. Previously, Minister Cesar Vasquez indicated that the health emergency would only be applied in Ancash, La Libertad, Ica and Piura.
