Caracas, March 12 (RHC)-- More than four million militants of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela -PSUV-, elected President Nicolas Maduro as the formation's candidate for the July 28 elections, an authority informed today.
The first vice-president of the PSUV, Diosdado Cabello, referred in a press conference that during Thursday, Friday and Saturday of last week, 317 thousand 187 popular assemblies were held throughout the country at the base, which "constitutes an exercise of participative and protagonist democracy" established in the Constitution.
He affirmed that in these meetings "four million 240 thousand 32 militants actively participated, who in a unitary manner, by consensus, send a message to the national leadership of the party and to the party congress: that the candidate for the presidential elections of the year 2024, July 28, is called Nicolás Maduro Moros".
Cabello highlighted that the voters in these assemblies are the grassroots militancy of the Party and the electorate that actively participates in the Great Patriotic Pole is not counted.
Last Wednesday, the leader pointed out that these same structures will then have to order, because those who rule are the bases, that the highest party instance, the Congress, meets on March 15.
He explained that in that meeting the delegates, including the youth of the Party, will ratify the proposal made by the bases as to who will be the candidate.
Cabello stated that the PSUV will be deployed throughout Venezuela in particular tasks and assured that when July 28 arrives, all the tasks will be covered.
The most important challenge, he underlined, is to win that day and to do so with a great demonstration of mobilization and organization, that the people go out to vote in peace and that "absolutely nothing fails". (Source: Prensa Latina).
