Managua, July 20 (RHC)-- The President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega affirmed this Friday that the government and the people of his country are committed to the principle that only peace brings work, health, housing, transportation, free education because it is a human right.
During the speech offered for the 45th anniversary of the Popular Sandinista Revolution in the Central American country, President Ortega highlighted the achievements of the government in different sectors, such as the fight against illiteracy and agrarian reform.
Regarding the agrarian reform, he emphasized that "it was fair to give land to the peasants, and for that we had to recover the land that had been stolen from society, from the people, from the peasants."
According to the Nicaraguan president, the United States and Europe did not stop "being colonialists, they continue to be neocolonialists." "And the Soviet Union, logically led by Russia, being a power, had not come to settle here to take away Nicaragua's wealth, but rather came here to give the people a hand," he said. "And that is the big difference," he stressed.
President Ortega recalled that the United States and its imperialist allies organized a war against the revolution that had triumphed 45 years ago.
"In 1979, the war began and the U.S. president started it," he said, adding that the country had just gone through "a long war against the Somoza tyranny, which caused more than 5,000 deaths, and then came the other war, financed by the American rulers."
Daniel Ortega commented that it would be necessary to propose to international organizations that the powers disappear, that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) disappear, in order to have greater global security.
For the Nicaraguan head of state, “a genocide is taking place in Palestine” in which young people and children are killed daily.
Ortega denounced that Western countries “decide every day to supply [Israel with] more weapons so that Palestine continues to be bombed” and “the rulers of Israel say every day that the State of Palestine should disappear.”
The president maintained that he cannot “speak ill” of the people of Israel and the United States. “The criminals are the ones who are governing,” affirmed the president of Nicaragua.
At the end of his speech, President Ortega said that in his country they have managed to recover peace. “This is a victory for the people who want and defend peace, if we want it for Nicaragua, we want it for the world.”
Daniel Ortega thanked all those present and the international delegations that participated in the events for the 45th anniversary of the Sandinista Popular Revolution.
