Caracas, August 30 (RHC)-- The former presidential candidate for the Democratic Unitary Platform, Edmundo González Urrutia, failed to comply this Friday with the obligation to appear at the official summons issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The public prosecutor's office extended the summons to González Urrutia, for this Friday, August 30th at 10:00 a.m. local time, in order to answer questions in relation to the facts under investigation.

This is the third summons issued by the Prosecutor's Office, for González Urrutia to testify about the actions related to the usurpation of functions of the Electoral Power, after the creation of a false web page where altered electoral records were disclosed after the electoral process of last July 28th.

The Public Ministry issued a third summons to Edmundo González to appear, and warned that if he does not attend, an arrest warrant will be processed for being considered a risk of flight and obstruction of justice.

According to the prosecutor's office, González Urrutia must answer for other acts that are imputed to him, including his alleged involvement in crimes of usurpation of functions, falsification of documents, instigation to disobedience, computer crimes, criminal association and conspiracy.

On several occasions, officially and publicly, the former candidate was warned of legal responsibility if he does not abide by the official summons.

"If he does not appear before the Attorney General's Office on the date indicated, will consider that we are in the presence of a Danger of Flight, as provided for in article 237, and the Danger of Obstruction, provided for in article 238 of the Organic Code of Criminal Procedure, for which the corresponding Arrest Warrant will be processed," says the official citation.

It remains pending for the Ministry to indicate the next procedural actions to be executed in the process under investigation.

González Urrutia did not recognize the authority of the National Electoral Council (CNE), which he tried to supplant, nor of the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, which was responsible for carrying out the investigation on the contentious appeal filed by the re-elected president, Nicolás Maduro, regarding what took place during elections on July 28th.
