Buenos Aires, September 20 (RHC)-- Argentinian President Javier Milei has begun to dismantle Aerolineas Argentinas, as talks get underway with several private companies to take over the operations of the airlines.

The measure will be carried out if “the aeronautical unions continue with their force measures,” hence the announcement seemed more like extortion than pure communication.

The Government of Argentina, headed by Javier Milei, as always stated that they were interested in the privatization of Aerolíneas Argentinas.

The news is made public, after the Argentine presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni announced that “they are already in negotiations with companies to take over the flag carrier.   We are going to bury the union pickets of the aeronautical caste," said Adorni.  The Argentine spokesman warned that the Milei administration will fire workers and leaders of the sector.

Aerolíneas Argentinas, a company created by Juan Domingo Perón in 1949, remained an Argentine state-owned company for eleven years.

The Menem government changed it to a public limited company (S.A.). The deal with Iberia consisted of “the State taking over the debt of the company it was selling, while Madrid paid 1.61 billion dollars in public securities and 260 million in cash,” reports the Argentine newspaper Página 12.

“To get the money, the Spaniards took on debt: the liabilities were passed on to the company they had just bought.  A phase of dismantling began.  Iberia got rid of Aerolíneas' commercial offices in the country and abroad, in addition to selling the fleet of 28 planes and the simulators.  In addition, it dismantled the workshops and closed dozens of commercial routes,” adds the local newspaper.
