Beijing, November 11 (RHC-NNN) – Chilean President Michelle Bachelet has invited Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang to visit her country in the coming year to strengthen relations and firm up agreements in sectors such as science and technology.
According to Bachelet, this will help diversify trade between the two countries which is currently dominated by Chilean copper exports to China.
At a meeting on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Beijing, the leaders agreed to create a bilateral commission to concretize agreements currently under consideration in several areas such as science and technology, said Bachelet.
The commission will consist of various ministers who will travel to each other’s country to advance and outline future cooperation.
Besides extending an invitation to Li Keqiang, Bachelet also expressed Chile’s interest in continuing to expand trade that reached more than $33 billion last year. She emphasized her interest to increase Chinese investment in Chile which has seen trade with the Asian country grow exponentially since the two countries signed a free trade treaty.
According to Chile, infrastructure, energy and mining services are the three most promising sectors for investors.
