Santiago de Chile, November 18 (NNN-EFE-RHC)-- Employment in Chile rose 0.9 percent in September compared with the same month in 2013, while wages increased 1.6 percent in 12 months, the Chilean Safety Association (ACHS for its acronym in Spanish) said Monday.
Ten of the country's 15 regions saw increases in employment, according to the report. Employment in social services and health care increased 7.7 percent over 12 months. The education sector saw a gain of 3.8 percent.
Employment decreased 5.6 percent in construction, 1.4 percent in hotels and restaurants, and 1.3 percent in utilities, ACHS underlined.
Median monthly pay in September was 701,000 pesos (some $1,180), a 1.6 percent inter-annual increase. Employment in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, where most of Chileans live, increased 1.5 percent since September 2013, and wages went up 1.4 percent in the period.
The ACHS report draws data from companies that paid social security taxes throughout the 12 months that ended Sept. 30, which represent about 26 percent of Chile's total workforce.
